The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. Your responsibilities includeYour responsibilities include

  • Work on tasks within the scope of the BMWE-funded LuFo project “Sonrisa”
  • Conducting and evaluating computed tomography measurements using the Department 8.5’s laboratory micro-computed tomography (XCT) systems
  • Leading and implementing the work package “Workflow development for zone-based XCT analysis (Region-of-Interest XCT)”
  • XCT simulations using BAM’s proprietary aRTist software, as well as correlation of simulation results with XCT measurements
  • Development of a Region-of-Interest workflow for XCT
  • Assistance in the maintenance of the Department 8.5’s laboratory micro-computed tomography systems
  • Active participation in project meetings and detailed coordination with project partners
  • Active participation in the BAM Materials focus area
  • Cooperation with internal and external research groups as well as with industrial partners
  • Detailed scientific documentation of the results through journal articles, presentations at national and international conferences, publications, and reports

Your qualificationsYour qualifications

  • A successfully completed university degree in physics, engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, physical engineering, or a related field
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in computed tomography
  • In-depth experience and knowledge in digital image processing and analysis
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages relevant to the role (e.g., Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, C++)
  • Very good knowledge of English (spoken and written)
  • Knowledge of materials science, particularly additively manufactured metals using the powder bed fusion process (PBF-LB/M) as well as the process itself, is desirable
  • Knowledge of the generation or evaluation of simulated computed tomography data is desirable
  • Experience with the simulation software “aRTist” is desirable
  • Proficiency in German (spoken and written), or a willingness to learn German or to improve existing German language skills
  • Strong communication and information management skills, initiative and commitment, decision-making ability, teamwork and cooperation skills, as well as the ability to think conceptually, strategically, and innovatively
