The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. Your responsibilities includeYour responsibilities include

As part of the research project "Material Testing of Metal Seals for the Safe Containment of High-Level Radioactive Waste (MarA)," which is funded by BASE, you will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Conducting in-depth material investigations and analyses of the time-dependent material behavior of metallic sealing components and their impact on the function of complex metallic seals in containers for the interim storage of radioactive waste
  • Evaluation of long-term suitability, incorporating the latest findings in materials research
  • Publication of key research findings
  • Contribution to the further development of safety assessment methods 

Your qualificationsYour qualifications

  • A successfully completed master’s or diploma degree in materials science, materials engineering, mechanical engineering, or a comparable field 
  • A Ph.D. is preferred 
  • In-depth knowledge of metallic materials, particularly aluminum and silver, as well as time-dependent deformation and damage behavior 
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering mechanics and materials engineering 
  • In-depth knowledge in the field of mechanical testing 
  • Knowledge of design and digital image correlation is an asset 
  • Knowledge of sealing applications is an asset 
  • Interest in scientific work in a technically oriented field 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in German and English 
  • Proven track record of publishing in recognized international journals and presenting research results 
  • Good communication and information behaviour, goal-oriented and structured way of working, ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate, flexibility as well as conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking skills
