The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. Your responsibilities includeYour responsibilities include
Research and development in the field of innovative analytical methods for battery materials and batteries, with a particular focus on:
- Development and application of innovative analytical methods for the investigation of batteries and battery materials, with a focus on operando X-ray scattering techniques (SAXS) and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS)
- Conducting literature reviews and preparing scientific publications on innovative analytical methods for batteries and battery materials
- Acquisition of experimental data using methods such as (operando) SAXS, XAS, and gas/vapor sorption measurements
- Evaluation and interpretation of experimental data using state-of-the-art models
- Presentation of research results at national and international conferences and preparation of scientific publications
Your qualificationsYour qualifications
To fill the advertised position, candidates must meet the following mandatory requirements:
- A very good university degree (Diploma or Master's degree) in Chemistry or a related field
- A completed Ph.D. with excellent results in Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related discipline
- Solid expertise in scientific programming, automation, and scientific data management, as well as proficiency in software development and version control best practices (e.g., Python, EPICS, ophyd, Bluesky, Git, and AI/LLM-assisted development environments)
- Excellent technical understanding of the interaction and integration of scientific measurement, control, and data acquisition systems
- Experience in the statistical evaluation, analysis, and interpretation of experimental data using established and advanced methodologies (e.g., regression analysis and Bayesian methods)
- Demonstrated ability to prepare scientific publications and present research results at national and international scientific conferences
- Experience in interdisciplinary research projects and willingness to undertake national and international business travel
- Excellent written and spoken German and English language skills
- A goal-oriented and structured working style, initiative and commitment, sound decision-making ability, strong teamwork and collaboration skills, and the capacity for conceptual, strategic, and innovative thinking
The following qualifications are considered advantageous:
- Experimental experience with gas or vapor sorption porosimetry techniques
- Experience with modern experimental analytical and characterization techniques and the operation of large-scale scientific instruments and research infrastructures (e.g., X-ray scattering, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and synchrotron beamlines)
- Knowledge of electrochemical measurement and testing methods, including their integration into complex experimental setups and research programs
